We are proud to announce that Warsaw has been selected to host the International Cartographic Conference (ICC) in July 2027. The decision was announced during this year’s 32nd edition of the Congress, which took place from 17 to 22 August 2025 in Vancouver (Canada). This prestigious event, organised every two years by the International Cartographic Association (ICA), brought together around 750 participants from around the world, including a strong 30-strong Polish delegation.
During an extraordinary ICA assembly, the bid submitted by the Polish cartographic community back in 2023 was accepted almost unanimously. The leaders of the Polish initiative are: the University of Warsaw, the Warsaw University of Technology and the Association of Polish Surveyors, in collaboration with other institutions, including the Institute of Geodesy and Cartography. Poland’s bid was presented at the Congress by Dr Izabela Gołębiowska, Professor at the University of Warsaw, and Dr Dariusz Gotlib, Professor at the Warsaw University of Technology. The project was also supported by the Polish Tourist Organisation / Poland Convention Bureau, and Symposium Cracoviense actively participated in the preparations at all stages.
This is the second time in history that Poland will host this prestigious event – the ICC was first held in Warsaw in 1982. Hosting the Congress in 2027 is not only a great honour, but also a unique opportunity to promote Poland on the international stage – as a modern country, open to innovation and an active participant in global discussions on the future of cartography, geoinformation and spatial technologies.
The International Cartographic Congress is the world’s most important platform for the exchange of knowledge, showcasing the latest achievements in the fields of cartography, geoinformation, mapping technologies and spatial analysis. The event is accompanied by the ICA General Assembly, attended by representatives of the member countries of this international organisation, which brings together scientific, administrative and commercial institutions.
Organising the Congress in Warsaw is an ambitious logistical and scientific challenge, but also a tremendous opportunity for Polish researchers, students and practitioners – to present their own achievements, build international relationships and further develop the national cartographic and geoinformation community.
Warsaw is already inviting the world to join in drawing the maps of the future.
